Here are some car detailing tricks that your body shop won’t tell you about. As life continues to move at a fast pace, many of us find that we’re spending a lot of time in our cars. This means that we’re tracking in a lot of dirt and debris into our cars. If we dare to eat in our cars, especially for several meals, it can be even more challenging to keep our car clean . It’s expensive to detail the car and the high price of car detailing can quickly deplete our savings. It will take a lot of time and hard work to keep a car clean and frequently, we’re pressed for time. Thankfully, there is some fantastic car detailing hacks that can help us to keep our car’s interior and even the exterior clean. All we need is a few cleaning supplies that we likely already have on hand.
Remove Crumbs And Debris Out OF Nooks And Crannies
Even if we’re very careful it seems we still manage to get crumbs all over in our car, especially if we’re eating on the go. The worst thing about the crumbs is the challenge of getting them out of some of those nooks and crannies. You’ll want to use an old toothbrush or if you have one handy, a flat head screwdriver with a cloth to remove those crumbs. Then you should vacuum them up.
Get Bugs With A Dryer Sheet
It seems that some areas of the country are more prone to bugs and that means that you’re going to have more bugs on your car . Squashed bugs aren’t just unsightly, they can also damage the paint of your car. You’ll want to remove them as quickly as possible. Take a spray bottle of water and wet down the area that has bugs. Now use a dryer sheet and scrub the bugs gently off of your car to save the paint. Use a thin coat of wax after if needed. If you’re in an area that is known as “love bug season” or if you’re often on the highway, you’ll want to keep some dryer sheets folded up in your car to do this quickly regardless of where you are.
Shine The Headlights Up
It’s not unusual for headlights to cloud over and become dingy, this can make it difficult to see other drivers and for them to see you. Headlights are easy to shine up with some non-gel toothpaste and a pair of old pantyhose. The toothpaste is gently abrasive and will remove the build-up on the headlights. If you can’t find any pantyhose then try a microfiber cloth. The best toothpaste for this project is the type that has baking soda in it. If the headlights have a specialized tint you may need to hire a professional for this task. Anytime you are cleaning the car it is important to not forget about the headlights. This is an essential part of total car detailing.
Get A Great Smelling Car
After a time your car may begin to take on the odor of the foods you’ve been eating. It may take on pet odor and other odors, you can easily restore your car scent. Sprinkle the seats with baking soda and allow it to sit in your car for several hours. Then, all you have to do is vacuum the seats of your car. Baking soda has many odor busters in it and will freshen your car. Choose an all natural air freshener and use it in your car as well. You can even use some scented wax cubes in a small jar after you poke some holes in the lid. This will then melt in the car and make it smell better.
Clean Up Cup Holders With A Sock
Not everyone has removable cup holders, some are stationary. If this is you, these are tricky spots to clean. All you’ll need is a sock soaked in your favorite cleaner. After you soak the sock, place it in the cup holder and twist it about until it has cleaned the cup holder. You may have to scrape stubborn areas with a wooden skewer.
Clean Those Floor Mats
Floor mats take a beating and you’ll find that every time you get into or out of your car to drive they’re getting dirtier. You can either get a car detailing expert to do this or you can do it at home and save money. Fabric covered mats can easily be washed in your washer. Apply a stain remover to help loosen any stains. Put them in the washer on a gentle cycle with your detergent. Make sure that you select the gentle cycle to avoid any damage and only do this in a front loading washing machine to avoid any damage to your floor mats. Plastic mats can be sprayed off with a hose or soaked in a tub to remove debris. Allow them to dry fully before returning them to your car.
